Berea Presbyterian Church

3010 Olive Street

Open to public /  Not Open to public

Berea Presbyterian Church was organized in 1898 as a black congregation. Of 43 churches in the Mill Creek Valley before the 1960 demolition, Berea is the only one that did not move. The St Louis Presbytery's Board of Church Extension asked it to remain, remodel and enlarge. During the 1960s, Berea became a racially mixed congregation drawing a number of white families into the church. Civil rights organizations met in the church and members participated in civil rights demonstrations.
