This one-room school opened in 1909 for the black students in the Maplewood-Richmond Heights School District. The school's first teacher, Harvey J. Simms, named it for Lincoln Institute (now Lincoln University in Jefferson City). Before it became Lincoln Elementary, the school was known as the "Color School on Dale." It was sold in 1955 and its students were transferred to New Lincoln Elementary School.
