At one time, the African American community in Richmond Heights and Brentwood flowed into each other along Eager Road. Many of the African Americans who moved to both communities came to work in the Evans-Howard brickyard in Brentwood and service jobs offered by wealthy families in nearby subdivisions in the early 1900s. The homes were called "two by two," which were two two-room homes, attached to each other without a basement, indoor plumbing or electricity. The streets around the homes in the community went unpaved for years. A section of the community was taken by the expansion of Highway 40 and the Richmond Heights Community Center.
