St. Alphonsus Liguori “Rock” Church, established in 1867 and completed in 1872, is a landmark of African-American Catholic heritage in St. Louis. Nicknamed “The Rock” for its rough-cut stone construction, the church features a 237-foot steeple and stunning stained glass windows. It is a Redemptorist parish that embraces African-American Catholic traditions and continues to serve as a spiritual and cultural hub for the community.
